Psuedonyms only work under certain conditions. For a singer-songwriter they should be something catchier than your real name while not sounding too contrived. Like Bob Dylan for Robert Zimmerman. Punk bands have a little more leeway for crazy names, I think. I mean, Jello Biafra, Rat Scabies, or Sam the Sham (not punk, I know, but a great name nonetheless) just wouldn't work as singer-songwriter names. I think that Greybyrd had the same connotations-only it wasn't as goofy, and therefore wasn't as cool.
I like you going by your real name though, I think it will suit you better.
